RESCUE RANGERS

Okay. So. This is a weird one. Back in 2015, I went to Disney and pitched an idea (out of left field). I wanted to do a 1940’s film noir movies based on the old 80’s RESCUE RANGERS animated cartoon. Disney loved the pitch, and I was hired to write the hybrid live action/animation feature film, RESCUE RANGERS. The studio then assigned the project to Mandeville Films to produce. I wrote several drafts. Folks seamed to like the movie. But ultimately the project never happened (not unusual in this business), and the project fizzled. CUT TO: years later, and “streaming” arrives on the scene. DISNEY+ appears. Mandeville is still the production company on the project. They hire other writers to come in a do subsequent passes on the script (also not unusual). Needless to say, the movie became something VERY different — from 40’s film noir to… contemporary “meta" commentary on the animation business? When asked whether or not I wanted to arbitrate for screen credit, I passed. I did not see enough of my movie still left in the movie they made. So, there you have it. I originated the project, but have no screen credit to show for it (also not unusual in this wacky business). ;)
